Story Intro
High in the misty mountains of Shan State, Myanmar, the remote village of Naung Sam Phu sits across the valley from many of the other coffee-growing communities in the Indigo Mountain region. Here, smallholder farmers of the Pa-O ethnic group cultivate coffee along steep mountain slopes at elevations around 1,495 meters above sea level.
River Phin Coffee Roasters is proud to share this coffee, sourced through a collaboration with Pink Headed Duck Coffee to help bring the work of these farmers to a wider audience.
The Process
This lot is led by producer U Khun Maung Song, one of the farmers helping guide the community’s transition toward specialty coffee production. Carefully harvested cherries are processed using the dry natural method, where the fruit dries slowly around the seed on raised beds for several weeks, allowing the sugars from the fruit to infuse the coffee with deep sweetness and layered complexity.
